DescriptionRug possibly attributable to Aimaq tribe from areas throughout Central Asia including Turkestan and Afghanistan. Symmetric knot with brownish red wefts. The aubergine colored ground suggests Aimaq attribution. The main field contains latch hook medallions surrounded by a lattice or “running dog” border. Main border features a “leaf and calyx”/ “leaf and goblet”/ “ wineglass” design often found in Caucasian rugs produced in the Kazak region. Minor border consists of eight-point star motifs.
