DescriptionLong rug possibly attributable to Shahsavan tribal group. The main field consists of eight multi-colored hooked diamond motifs similar to designs of Anatolian and Caucasian origin on a dark blue ground. Primary border features a “sun bird” or bird head motif common in tribal rugs produced in southwest Persia (Iran). Two different minor borders; one features a reciprocal trefoil motif and the other is comprised of alternating light olive/brown and red colored chevron patterns. Both of these minor border designs are common elements of Shahsavan weaving. This is a rare example as pile rugs are not typical of Shahsavan weaving groups.
