DescriptionRug attributable to the Baluch possibly from Chakhansur region of Southwest Afghanistan based on design motifs. Baluchi rugs of this region are finely knotted with small geometric elements in the field. The field pattern is divided up into three vertical sections with a derivation of the “star and cross” motif usually found on bag faces. In this particular example, the cross elements are especially prominent. No primary border but minor borders including an “animal head and diamond” motif but without diamonds as well as “S” motifs representing dragons in combat. Top and bottom ends comprised of striped bands of kilim with two ivory weft-float stripes framing a wide chevron border.
