DescriptionA long rug from the Middle Amu Darya region of Central Asia (Uzbekistan) that was probably used as a cushion topper as opposed to a runner. Woven in two sections and then joined together, hence visible seam down the middle as well as places where design motifs do not align perfectly. The main field consists of two rows of eight octagonal designs or gȕls, Some of the gȕls have cross or ram’s horn motifs in the center while others have eight-pointed star motifs. Star and ram’s horn (hooked) motifs fill the space on either side of the two rows of gȕls. Side borders feature a “kotchanak” or ram’s horn motif with cross motifs similar to the pattern of the main gȕls on top and bottom ends.
