DescriptionEthiopian religious painting, “The Crucifixion.” Sun and moon appear at the top to left and right of the cross. The two crucified thieves appear to the right and left of the scene. Three angels collect the blood of Christ in golden goblets. Roman soldiers at the bottom left (on horseback) and right pierce the side of Christ and offer Him a vinegar sponge. Mary mourns at the left bottom of cross while St. John mourns at the right.
