DescriptionLarge painting of the “Battle of Adwa” with Saint George within a rainbow at top left of center. Priests carry the Ark of the Covenent on the left. Several named Ethiopian commanders on horseback: Ras Mekonnen, Commander Balcha, and the Fitewraris Gebeyehu, Yimer, and Tafesse. Queen Taitu, the wife of King Menelik, appears at the bottom left of center attended by an umbrella bearer. On the right is the retreating Italian leader General Baratieri. Images of drummers, prisoners, corpses, guards, the wounded, and vultures add to the drama of the scene. Signed on bottom: Artist Ta.[Tamrat] Mamo.
