DescriptionSequential painting of “Queen of Sheba Narrative in Three Shield and Weapon Cartouches.” Each narrative begins w/ agreement to poison a goat and serve it to serpent; accession of Makeda’s father; her crowning; ends with Menelik’s dedication of the tomb at Aksum. The exception is the last image in the central cartouche, which depicts a merchant in a boat taking Makeda’s gift to Solomon instead of the obelisks at her tomb at Aksum. The artist signed his name below each shield: Artist Ta. [Tamrat] Mamo.
