DescriptionDoll modeled after a historical figure, Molly Ballassee Nicola or “Molly Molasses,” a Penobscot woman (1775-1868) reputed to be a powerful shaman. She is depicted as an elderly woman with gray hair, black dress with white dots, black and white plaid overcoat, black boots, typical indigenous black cap with white bead trim and double S-curve designs, two large brooches, and red bead earrings. Tag with Molly Molasses story is attached to the doll with a beaded string.
