DescriptionRetablo titled El Curandero (The Healer). Narrative images of a healer or shaman depicted practicing traditional folk medicine. In the curing ceremony, the healer reads coca leaves and passes a live cuy, guinea pig, over the body of the patient to diagnose the illness. Later, the cuy is dissected and its entrails examined to determine the cause of the illness. Depending on the findings, the healer will then prescribe traditional treatment using herbs and various crosses.
