What does the term “Indigenous” mean? Students examine Indigenous peoples as contemporary agents engaged in political struggle and share Indigenous understandings of being in relationship with the land. Defines colonization as an ongoing “settler colonial” project. Highlights Indigenous feminist and LGBTQIA understandings of Indigeneity and settler colonialism. Course content draws on scholarly literature, narrative history, and media.
