CORE C124 Nigeria (Fall '25)

View All Collections
An interdisciplinary inquiry into the histories, cultures, and practices of the diverse peoples of Nigeria. Taking a chronological approach from the early 19th century to the 21st century, students explores the development of Nigerian societies before, during, and after British colonization to study the internationalization of the country in the contemporary period. Although imposed colonial institutions forever altered Nigeria, the dissemination of its cultures across the world through film, music, and literature (i.e. Nollywood, Afrobeats, and celebrity writers) has reversed the direction of cultural influence that had once been determined by colonial powers.
